How many times have you seen a very expensive red saree in a store and thought to yourself "I can totally get this made myself ! ". Well.. I had that moment when I saw Kareena chammak challo-ing in Ra One ! lol zz
So I bought a plain red chiffon saree and a crappy gold border (it was the best I could manage in the non-fashion conscious city I lived in :-/ ) and put the look together with a gold blouse.. and my mom was like - "what were you thinking ??? "
Since them I have come a long way ... phew !

Ya I know the title is lame .. lolzzzz

So our second designer is just as delicate and dreamy as her creations. Anushree Reddy is relatively pretty new (pretty and new actually ! ) in the fashion circuit and I was floored by her designs in 2013 Lakme Fashion Week !!

 Her trademark style is floral prints and scalloped edges .. I would say her creations are just perfect for a princessy engagement look :)

Ok be honest. While watching Ram Leela, how many of us were able to take our eyes off Ranveer's chiseled frame ??? Coz those of you who would have managed to blink, might have actually noticed Deepika's gorgeous super flared lehengas !!

I first noticed the lehenga when the Raam Leela poster was released and I cudnt take my eyes off it ! And then I learned it was Anju Modi and since then I have seen stuff from her that makes me feel where was she before Raam Leela happened ??

So if u remember, I have been raving about this 'Risk It All' lip color by Bare Minerals in quite a many of my prev posts .. and its been more than 3 months and I wear it almost everyday and I am still madly in love !!
So my heart (mind is always shut up in shopping matters :p ) realized that its time to bring home some frenz to this very beautiful lip product !

Miami - a place to be !

I know I have been MIA since ages now and a lot of you all have complained about it . Honestly, I did not even know that you girls liked the blog so much that it was being missed :) makes me feel really good !! Thank u people (specially Kanchan ! )

So while a lot has been happening around me, one good thing that happened was that I was lucky enough to go on a short and super fun vacation with my gurl gang to Miami and Key West ! It was supposed to be a spinsters party cum vacation coz one of my very close friends is getting married next month !

So obviously it was a summer theme with summer dresses and bright lips. And thats what the post is all about :) 3 lip colors and 2 sun screens ruled the trip.. read on to meet the heroes :D

Definitely craving some flat abs right now :( All these crop tops are causing serious depression !

But on a more materialistic front .. um seriously craving for some 'ethnic wear' .. its just been sooo long :( I really wanna attend a weddingggg !!

Oh and that reminds me .. have you guys seen Main Tera Hero ? no ? ok.. have you seen the video for 'shanivaar raati' song from the same movie ? I kinda liked Nargis's outfit in that song. It was a pretty coral lehenga with a hot pink dupatta .. and I have a thing for hot pink, god knows why !

They say that when you are afraid of something.. shutting your eyes tight will not make it go away. You have to be brave and face it all !

I could see it coming when I was following LIFW that this is going to be a dare bare summer .. but I conveniently ignored it :) but yesterday, while I was out shopping for one of my upcoming trips .. all I could see were these cropped tops .. very pretty.. very tempting .. equally risky !

Sorry for such a huge gap between updates .. but I have been very happily busy with something very important !

Oh by the way .. I finally got to play Holi and the event organizers more than made up for the delay by arranging the most fun Holi event right on a beach :D It was one grand affair with DJ and colors and Indian delicacies (I mean food alright!!! lolzzz )

I was obviously very excited about the whole thing, but my only worry was that it was gonna be in the sun on the beach for more than 4 hours .. now that can cause some serious sun damage and tanning. (scares me to no extent ! ) Now I have come to experience that sunscreens only screen your skin from sun damage and not from tanning .. so I was quite prepared to get back home with different shades of brown ..

Beach Babe !!

Come summer and the world is ready to jump in the sea !! like literally ... Almost all of us wanna stay in the water to  beat the heat like hippos , except we dont wanna look like them !! (no way dude ! )

So ... we bathe in sunscreen before we bathe in water .. sit under an umbrella or under a humongous hat .. keep sipping ice tea and take an ultra glamorous dip in the sea :D

So here I am .. with a checklist to help you not forget anything before you pick up your beach bag and head off to the beach :)

LFW Summer/Resort 2014 !

Holi Kab Hai ?? ..... Kab Hai Holi ??

lol !! no um not trying to be lady Gabbar Singh here .. its just that Holi happens to be on Monday (which is not a very good day since its the first day of the week ! ) and lots of Holi lovers dont have the patience of waiting out the entire week so some are celebrating it this weekend, some on Monday and some next week .. what a confusion ! When am I supposed to wish people "Happy Holi" haan ??

Holi is one festival where people have a lot of mixed feelings .. I know a lot of ppl who wont even let u touch them with your colored finger tip No Matter What :( fun spoilers I call them :-/
Me, on the other hand .. am CRAZY (u know I really mean it when i go all caps :D lol !! ) about Holi !! Its the bestest festival :D

So I spent this whole week counting days (sadly, have to count out another week :( ) and to make it run by faster, I did 2 things :
1. Completed 3 seasons of game of thrones and
2. Followed Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014

Currently Craving ...

Lots of alphabets for sure :( The thing is, when ever I try and write a word that has double letters in it, I almost 99.9% of the times end up writing those letters three times .. and this is happening (I just now had to delete an extra 'p' from this word !! arrrgh .. ) like all the time !!

Well ( thank god for the spell check ... else u wud have read this as 'welll' .. ) , I dunno why but um suddenly feeling like I need to have some standard color accessories in my collection (apart from black) and I should limit the colors to clothes only (thats the sensible  me talking I guess ... um sure when I do go to buy 'standard' , I'll bring home a pair of fuchsia shoes ! )

'Tan' seems to be on my mind a lot lately and these cutesie pieces are only making me crave it more !!

Looks like all of our top B town actresses were asking this question while getting ready to be awarded the 'Most Stylish' award this Sunday in Mumbai.
While I think they are always striving to be stylish and pretty and 'different' at most of their award function outings .. they would have gone that extra inch to make sure they put their most stylish foot forward for this one ! agree ?

Unfortunately, I barely found anyone's outfit really standing out (as they should have !) .. These ladies dress up better for Blender's Pride fashion tour every year for  God's sake ..

After a rather long gap, I happened to go the mall today to buy something 'important'  , but obviously - its a mall and you can not not look ! right ? So while I knew what I wanted to buy , I carelessly glanced over all the new 'Spring' stuff, purely because um a blogger now and I need to know the market (I never do this otherwise. I just go and buy what I need :p you HAVE to believe me guys !!)

There was very cute Style&Co dress that I had tried on a few months back and spent good 10 minutes just contemplating about it (and ended up not buying it coz it was slightly pricey) .. that dress has come down to $80 !! (no I still din buy it coz I have a very strong feeling it will come to $50 ! lol ! )

 

Wed Me Good !

No its not my wedding date and ya I know that you know its today's date, but what you don't know is that its the best weather ever, here today ! and yes, good weather is very very important to me !  Almost like a good coffee or a good cheese cake .. or a good blog to start your day !

When I had a full time job and I was supposed to start my day at 9 and finish it off at 9 or 10 or 11 or 12 or even 1 at night (yeah, I have had a very tough life friends :( ) , even then I managed to make time to read my favorite blogs .. a good blog , the one that makes you feel connected - can be an addiction I tell you. If there was a day when nothing new was posted, I could feel that empty spot the whole day till the next day !

All that you ever dreamed of...

Have you ever wondered, how every site that you open these days , first thrusts upon your face the "sign in with your email id" form ??? Annoying as it is, its very helpful for business and of course I realized that when I started this blog .. 

Considering the amount of net surfing I inflict upon my data plan, I obviously have tons of subscriptions by now.. one such is Limeroad.com . Though frankly, I must have barely opened 2 of their emails in the past year or so.. but the email I got 5 minutes back really got me interested and made me start writing this post (otherwise it was going to be a no post day today as I was in a total drab mood) ...

The subject of the email is "Rashmi get all that you ever dreamed of " . (Ironically and bcoz I was in a bad mood, I was reflecting upon my life and my dreams and stuff coz I get very philosophical when um low, which you would have already guessed by now considering how this post is turning out to be :-|) So when I read the subject line, my heart skipped a beat thinking what if this email really has the answer to all that I ever dreamt of ? Or what if I open it and find that its full of non sense that either I'l never need or I'll never get .. and, I still haven't opened that email. Because somewhere in my heart I really want that email to have everything that I ever dreamed of .. but in my heart I also know that there is no way in the world that Limeroad knows what I dream of !!! 

So I am going to 1.2.3 and open that email (we all do that !! ) and tell you all whether it really had what would make me happy.

Yesterday evening we were going out for dinner and I casually mentioned that I needed a black evening clutch and I looked up to see the guy staring at me with a Big question mark on his face !! So I generously explained that its a bag thats supposed to be carried  for evening dinners and parties .. and I was promptly pointed out to the rack that has 5 bags on it - "you have all the bags in the world !! " and I realized, may be its time the world knows the kinds of bags and why do we need so many of them !!

hello dolls !

Since time immemorial , I have been looking for 'mera wala pink' in lipsticks ... My roomies have witnessed me  bringing home all kinds of pink shades just because I coudnt find the one (Its easier to find the right guy than finding the right shade for yourself ! ) And no I am not writing this post to tell you all that I have found the perfect shade .. sorry :(

While looking for 'the shade', I came across lots of pretty stuff that I wanna go out and try and bring home (and again cry about not finding my shade and go look for more.. lol !! ) These look very pretty in pics and on some gorgeous people but I gotta try them on me yet ..

If you are wondering how do I remember all the stuff that I want to try .. well, I immediately note it in my 'ColorNotes' app on my cute smart phone !! I lou my phone :D

Two Timers !!

Hi There !

There was a time when two timing was a taboo .. Any body two timing was considered bad, heartless, mean and would be publicly ridiculed... Thats still true , just not in the make up world !!  (Did you really think I was gonna write a post on two timers and all that heavy stuff ?? naaah .. )

Yes, in the world of makeup , two timing products are a must have and very sought after !! Just imagine, how convenient it would be to dab some thing on ur lips, on ur cheeks and may be even on ur eye lids ! how light your travel bag would be ?? And its definitely a must for "carry all" people like me :o Actually previously I did not feel too bad about carrying too much makeup with me, but when I wrote it down, word by word in my previous post about Big Bear, I realized how dumb I was :p
But now that I have been introduced to these smart little babies.. my makeup bag will be light as a feather !

OOTD - Zara striped shirt !!

This big hello obviously shouts that um extra happy today !! I made a new friend in the foreign country AND I inaugurated my Zara striped  shirt (finally ! ) :D :D

So I and my new friend met online on an Indian Community portal and hit it off instantly .. and after a month long session of being only online friends, we finally met today and got along like a house on fire !! I am soooper happpyyy to have found a shopping partner coz she is as crazy about shopping as I am and it only makes things better that she is a model !! Oh yes ! (Read on to catch a glimpse ;) )

There are literally TONS of options available in terms of colors, fabric and patterns and one is absolutely spoiled for choices.. Chandni chowk in Delhi has a dedicated market to anarkalis and salwar kameezes !! Such importance :D

My Best Friend's Wedding !! - Part 1

Hello Darlings !

Its a season of festivities in India and everything is pretty, just the way we like it !! One of my closest friend's sister is getting married and as usual, everyone is confused about "what to wear !!" And its only fair since there are sooo many beautiful options available in the market today and too many functions to attend... nope, no one is complaining :p

So my friend asked me if I could do a post on wedding wear (yes of course you can ask me to do a post on any topic !! ) to clear some confusion .. and so here it is !
Actually I started writing out a single post but there were so many options that it actually ran into a series of THREE posts !!! We women do rule the markets :D

Lets look at what options we do have and how can we customize them !

1. Lehenga Saree
This is my favorite outfit as it brings out the best of both worlds in one outfit ! You can go for the standard lehenga sarees or add a little more detail like this one from Sabyasachi . Notice those extra small kalis at the hem.. makes it look like dipika is walking on clouds :D:D:D

 

I am in LOVE with this white lehenga saree by Sabya !! What makes it really stand out is the extra detailing in the flare of the lehenga .. I am sure lots of stores in Chandni Chowk, Delhi are already selling replicas of these.
Or else there are other standard lehenga sarees too ..ones with kalis just in the front and the ones with kalis all around .

 

Those who know me know that NO post is complete without the pink lehenga saree .. I dream of it every day !



2. Lehengaaaaah !!
Thats how I spell lehenga .. it makes me go aaaah with joy !! :D :D Seriously ! Nothing flatters more than a well fit full flare lehenga .. Steer clear away from those narrow peticoat types .. absolutely hate them ! These days silk and chanderi lehengas are really in vogue because net has been over done I think .. Raw silk lehengas look very classy and need very little embellishments as they shine on their own . Next in line are velvet lehengas with paneled embroidery , a la Manish Malhotra :D Have a look !
Please keep the colors bright though !

 

 

My personal favorites are chanderi silk lehengas because they have those small subtle gold coins on the fabric :D The first 2 images in top row are chanderi silk lehengas and second 2 are velvets.
The first 2 lehengas in bottom row are raw silk lehengas and the last one is a velvet lehenga too .

If you are going for the light net, chiffon or georgette lehengas, try and pair them with silk cholis or velvet corsets for a regal effect. Like these ones here : shimmer brocade choli and pink velvet corset.

 

or experiment with unusual silhouettes or cholis .. like this Atsu lehenga or this one shouldered choli which has been covered with dupatta on the other shoulder .

The week has started and and we are back in our weekly routine . Wake up, have tea, get ready, work etc etc etc . We do all this because its important and because it makes our lives good (at least having Tea definitely makes life better :p )

Now that the V Day frenzy has died out and most of us would be savoring our weekend before starting over with our regular lives , until the next distraction.. I thought of sharing some details of this very beautiful and very scenic place that I went to this weekend - The Big Bear mountain .

There are 2 kind of people - ones who travel light and ones who carry their whole world with them ! No prizes for guessing that I belong to the second category :p I carry every possible thing, outfits for impossible events etc etc etc .. I have a lot of 'just in case' stuff in my travel bag ..
So on this short 3 day trip I carried - a saree, just in case a fine dining romantic date happens; 2 dresses, just in case we go clubbing errrr, every night :p; 2 jeans, just in case one gets ruined; lots of tshirts coz tshirts always come handy . a pair of sports shoes, a pair of high heels, a pair of flats.. and ofcourse , accessories and tons of makeup :p
BAD IDEA !!

Celeb Trend !!

Hi Again !!

One fine Thursday afternoon,  I was all curled up on my sofa with my laptop in front of me , ready for the next fashion post , when I suddenly got a call - "lets go on a vacation!!" and I was like "today? " and the reply was "now!!" .. So the poor fashion post promptly went to the drafts folder and has only come out now to see the light of the day .. I can hear a soft 'finally!' from it :p

The other day, during my regular "research" , I came across an online store that had a pretty black dress for 400 something dollars and I thought I had seen the dress on someone .. and guess what ? Amrita Rao had adorned the same dress at a recent Bollywood event ! Made me wonder - do all B town celebs pick up stuff off the rack ? Answer is NO . Because for some celebs, I looked and looked and then looked some more, but I did not find their gowns and dresses being sold anywhere online. I think the A listed ones get stuff custom made for themselves .. obviously.

Do you like watching fashion shows ? I LOVE them !! The ramp, the lights, glitzy shimmery clothes, beautiful tall models, music .. the whole experience is thrilling ! But some times you see a few clothes or bizarre makeup or ridiculous props and you wonder "who would ever wear that ???"  Has it happened to you ?

but then,  there are things you see that look impractical but doable .. like a saree with pants ! I know if I wear it to any of my family functions, I would be looked at from top to bottom and some audacious aunty might even hold my arm and twirl me around to see the whole outfit properly and then give that disapproving 'tch tch tch'  and I would be promptly made to change!
Thankfully I am too smart to wear it to my family function !! I would rather wear it to a cocktail event at my friends' .. right ?

Today I was not in a very good mood so I thought I'll do a post for the guys :p lol !!
But seriously .. don't you cringe at the sight of mismatched belts and absurd ties ?? My heart aches when I see a well built guy (who has the potential of looking good ! ) dressed in a sac :( Such a turn off ..

So I felt that I should contribute my 2 cents for my male friends so that they thank me when they get compliments !!
And girls, after gaining the super knowledge of recognizing a mismatched tie, please curb the urge of pointing it out right away !! Me ? Oh I have never done that :p

The little white dress !

Hello girls !!

We all own the 'LBD' (Little Black dress) and frankly I feel its a little over hyped. I mean ya - black is a party color but dont the other colors look just as pretty ? if not better .. 

So though I do own a couple of LBDs , I love LWDs as well just because they can be styled in a hundred ways !! I mean not literally hundred ways but about 5 ways at least :p The basic of styling a white dress is - add color . 

I swear by these !!

We all have some stuff in our makeup , skin care or hair care stash that we cant live without. Of course we wouldn't die if those things are taken away from us, but yeah life would be very difficult !

I too, have some of such stuff and I think its a great idea to share our 'go to' products :D

we all say Gold and Diamonds are assets .. But how many of us have even seen them getting sold like EVER ! Even when we do buy gold jewelry , we stick to wearable pieces . So what about the heavy maang teekas and earrings we need to flaunt at friends' weddings ??
We buy imitations !!
And if imitation is too LS for us , we improvise and buy silver and get it gold plated ! Female is the more intelligent gender anyways (I am so dead for saying this :p )

Most of the organizations in IT sector and otherwise too , have 'business casuals' as their accepted attire and most of us tend to go towards casual instead of business . This post will get that benefit of doubt out of the picture !

I know lot of you are remembering my huge danglers and love for OTT accesories and raising ur judgmental eyebrows and thinking " She is writing about business casuals ??? huh " . well all I can say is  , I have grown up alright !! (ahem ahem)

I raked my brains about why do we girls always crib and cry about having nothing to wear when every time we open our closets, a flood of clothes hits our faces ! I think the answer is that we hate repeating what we have worn already ! Well .. if the outfit managed to garner lot of compliments , it might see the light of the day again :p 

Ofcourse all of us have read it at sundry places that new looks can be created with old pieces  etc etc but how many of us actually do that ? Well this is possible only if you 'invest' while you are in stores and not just shop ! (yeah I have 2 wisdom teeth :p )

Whatever you pick, scan your wardrobe mentally and see how many pieces can you pair that outfit with. 

Fashion Sense and Sensibilities

Hello there ,

Where was I all this while ? Well .. I was touring my neighborhood malls to see whats cooking new :) And I have come back with lots of questions , observations and knowledge about the cultural difference in fashion across continents .

One very basic thing about international fashion that I have known since I picked up my first copy of Cosmopolitan is that Europeans dress up for everything , Americans do it casual as much as they can, Chinese, Japanese, Koreans do it cute and we Indians .. well we do it all ! And thats why all fashion houses are crowding in India these days .

So there are niche markets for all kinds of fashion but as much as I have seen, European fashion tops it all. It appeals to all and that explains the rush in stores like Zara in most of the American malls. Zara, Mango, Promod, Vera Moda, Only, Jack & Jones are some stores you will find in almost ALL popular malls in Indian metros and they are all Europeans ! what does that tell us people ? go figure :D

Valentine's gifts for 'Her'

Yes I am not biased. If I gave you girls ideas about what gifts you can give ur guy on V day, then I'll also ensure the guys get some ideas about what to buy the girl !

Contrary to what men think, we girls are very easy to read. Any guy who is even 30% into you can easily tell what will light up your face ! There are probably 10 kinds of categories for girls but trust me 8 of those  10 categories still will be happy with the standard 'gifts for girls' :D Easy right ??

So what are the usual gifts for girls ? Chocolates , flowers and cards belong to the default category. The usual gifts would be jewelry, dress, shoes, bags, electronics, vacations, watch ... yeah, pretty much around this.

You can still do all this and yet add a personal touch to it or make sure its unique. The best thing would be to see subtle hints (girls do drop them you know ! ) and try and make that happen !

I know we all love to give and receive gifts and flowers and love cards and chocolates on the V day. We start a lot in advance planning for the day. If you are girl fren boy fren , it will mostly be the guy preparing for the day .. if you have reached the "better half" stage, it will be both of you planning for it ( or it could still be just the guy :p ) .

Which ever case , we cant be just sitting tight to receive the gifts right.. you gotta give some back too !!

After providing quite a few interesting options about 'where to buy Indian ethnic clothes online' , I have compiled few options to rent the clothes for an occasion ! While some us might go thinking on the word 'rent' , let me tell you that its quite a popular trend in the United States. People rent prom dresses and tuxedos all the time !! We have a mental block of not repeating an outstanding (and exorbitant) piece of clothing once we have worn it to the occasion it was bought for .. the poor dress just sits in the garment bag for a very looong time ..
Howeverrr ... if you have an option to rent wear and return, you can wear multiple dresses for the price of one ! Not a bad deal I say :D
